Winter greens in red, green and chartreuse in neat rows

Laurel Urban Farms: New Year, New Opportunity

With every new year, there is opportunity to grow a new type of garden...or to create the perfect garden to meet your needs. We love urban farming so much. Though the countryside is nice also, there is something so dang hopeful about gardening in the middle of town. Front yard gardens will have people driving by getting whiplash, and maybe a few think to themselves that they, too, can grow a big garden in town. I, personally, would love to see a huge garden complete with pollinator plots intermixed with food crops in every front yard, front porch, side area, etc.

We realized that we had outgrown our current house and garden and began the search for a place that exceeded all of our needs and wants--a place that felt like home. And so the search began...

In the meantime, the our winter greens at the cottage continued to grow and started to supply a steady supply of radishes, beets, kale and mixed greens. There are few things more gratifying than harvesting your own salad greens; the taste is far superior to the store bought.
