Mid June Woms--The Vigilant Gardener

Just as tomatoes are pushing out healthy new growth like crazy, the worms begin to show up to take advantage. In our case, mid-June meant cutworm activity. A Mississippi gardener can also expect the emergence of tomato horn worm. Our preferred method of control is hand-picking and squishing.

If you catch the activity early, there is less of a need to spray, especially in small areas. If you aren't able to get ahead of it, you'll begin to notice that your glorious new leaves are getting nubbed down to skeletons. Boo.
